WANTED: Saguache County Road and Bridge and Landfill is looking to hire a Head Supervisor …. Starting at $71,000/year - DOE


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants are preferred to possess or may be required to possess a current Colorado Class “A” Commercial Drivers License with a heavy semi-truck endorsement and a current medical certificate. Applicants should have a high school diploma along with extensive knowledge of methods, operating rules, and equipment for road construction and maintenance operations. The prospective employee will also be required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug screening, before being hired. 


The Road & Bridge and Landfill Head Supervisor is a full-time salaried position – qualified candidates will be responsible for the coordination and supervision of labor, maintenance crews, and equipment while reconstruction, resurfacing, and general county road maintenance are performed. This position is expected to work during road emergencies so you should be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays when needed. The Head Supervisor reviews and evaluates employee performance, prepares the annual budget, and monitors all expenditures and revenues. This position is also responsible for the Landfill department, reporting to the State of Colorado Department of Health and the Board of County Commissioners, and assuring compliance with the Colorado Department of Health regulations. Experienced individual sought for the position of Housing Director for the Saguache County Housing Authority. Responsibilities include being the management agent for two apartment complexes owned by the Saguache County Housing Authority.



Applicants must possess professional office and interpersonal skills, property management experience, and a high level of initiative.  The starting salary will be $55,000 per year depending on experience.  A valid Colorado Drivers license is also required.

Job responsibilities include - Maintaining an integrated emergency management system for Saguache County including mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery projects. Manage budget, grants and accounting for the Office of Emergency Management. Promote training opportunities, monitor NIMS compliance, plan and execute exercises and take corrective action. Work with State, Regional and Federal agencies to ensure coordinated disaster planning and response. Job requirements: Incident Command System experience, high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum three years of related experience in emergency response or management if possible, and a valid Colorado driver's license.

Operator I is a full-time position – applicants must be able to operate light and heavy equipment and perform manual labor in the maintenance, repair, and minor construction of roads, streets, bridges, signs, markings, and related facilities.  Applicants must be physically capable of working in extremely hot and/or cold weather conditions, physically capable of periods of sustained physical exertion and may be required to lift and move up to 75 lbs. to 150 lbs.

Help Wanted: Road and Bridge Temporary Summer positions

Saguache County Road and Bridge is hiring for Two (2) Temporary Summer positions - $17.59/hour


REQUIREMENTS:  Applicants must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license.  Prospective employees applying with Saguache County will be required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.           


Temporary Summer positions – applicants must have a working knowledge of common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, and radios.  Must be able to take direction and lift 25 to 45 pounds.  Will be required to work in various climate conditions and be able to stand for long periods.  Flagging certification is a plus.  Work Hours will be Monday – Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.  Rate of pay: $17.59/hour/no benefits.  Prospective hires are to start around mid-May.

Help Wanted: Personal Care Providers (PCP)

Saguache County Public Health is hiring Personal Care Providers (PCPs). PCPs go into the homes of people who need help with cleaning, laundry, cooking meals, medication reminders, medical devices, and many other needed chores.

Applicants are required to pass a drug test, including marijuana, and a background check.  Applicants are also given a knowledge, skills, and abilities check to ensure they can lift at least 10-15 lbs. safely. Volunteer Weather Observers Needed!

The Saguache County Road & Bridge Department is looking for a few volunteer weather observers in the Crestone/Baca area.  These “eyes on the ground” volunteers will “see and report” on road conditions when heavy snowstorms and other inclement weather situations arise.  Volunteer weather observer reporting will help us ensure that our limited resources can be routed to the areas of need, resulting in a combined effort to keep roadways passible and safe for travel.  If you have an interest in weather and/or an interest in helping keep roadways safe, then give us a call at 719-655-2554 and get your name added to our list of weather observers!
